Design Directions Reflection

 Today I researched my two best ideas for briefs. These are: 1) How can we promote the eating of more unusual cuts of meat that usually go to waste? 2) How can we create more spaces for street art to be done legally? A quick google search of the first one revealed this was already quite a well-known concept. Not as well knows as it maybe could be, but not a new idea. There were already cooking books about it, and it had appeared on some TV shows.  The street art idea is much more of an unsolved problem. There are a few legal walls in cities like Bristol and Brighton, but not much elsewhere. Some businesses recruit street artist and paint murals for them, but there are very few opportunities where anyone to express themselves.  I started doing some visual research for the street art idea. I became very excited about the idea and the possibilities it could leave to quickly. I think this is the brief I want to continue, but I will wait until after next weeks workshop before ...

Today I had a workshop on coming up with a brief. I wasn't too keen on doing this at first because I thought I already had lots of ideas, but I am glad I did attend because I came up with many that were far better than my original plan.  We did the workshop online. We spent some time together as a group discussing ideas, and some time working independently. I liked this way of working.  I didn't come up with anything from the first exercise, but I came up with really good ideas from the later 3. Some of them were ideas rather than briefs, and with my group's help, I made them more open.  After the workshop, I then reviewed all the briefs that I came up with and found there were 2 I liked much better than the rest. I am now going to spend the rest of the week researching them to help me decide, and trying out slightly different versions of the brief. 

Today we started Design Directions. I am quite apprehensive about this module, as I like structure and constraints. However, I felt better after I had watched the lecture videos as they explained this module will still have structure and constraints, it's just we are providing them ourselves.  I have been thinking over the past week about what I might like to do. I have a couple of ideas, although I am still open to coming up with new ones in the workshop tomorrow.  The first is About Female Sexual health. There has been a recent trend in cleaning the vagina using a variety of special products and home remedies. This practice is harmful according to doctors and should be discouraged. However, the practice is common. 1 in 5 women from the age of 15 to 45 do it. I would like to create a campaign to inform people about the dangers.  Another is about consumerism. I think many people online shop mindlessly and are unaware of what they are spending or how much they are buying. ...
